As mentioned a few days ago, I recently lost all the photo links in my genealogy database; this also included losing the source data for those photos. I’ve been uploading my photos, and since I want them to be properly cited, I’ve been searching for the source records. To aid in future recovery projects, as well as to make it easier to search my PC, I’ve been updating and adding to the metadata on the photo originals.
My system, in the past, has been to add tags for each person in the photo. I’m now adding the name of the cemetery (for headstone photos), and the name of the source as tags.
For example, for a photo of the headstone of my great-grandparents, I would enter the following tags: Rachel Johnson, Newt Ward, Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
