Two hundred years ago my Ellis relatives were in Jackson County, Georgia, South Carolina, and possibly North Carolina.
Walter Ellis (5x great-grandfather) is my oldest Ellis relative who was alive in 1808. He and his wife, Mary (Parker) probably were in Jackson County, Georgia. In 1805, he appeared on the Jackson County land lottery list and in 1817, he applied for letter of Administration to the Estate of Bennett Ivy, also in Jackson County.
Their son, James E. Ellis (4x great-grandfather) was nineteen and unmarried, so he may have been living with his parents in Jackson County. He was married about 1810-1812 in North Carolina (possibly Haywood County), so he may have been in North Carolina.
James’ younger brothers, Isaac and Elijah, were also likely living with their parents in Jackson County.
James’ older sister Mary married Joseph Boggs in Jackson County on 25 Aug 1808.
His brother Stephen may have been in South Carolina. His sons, Benjamin and Miles were born in South Carolina in 1804 and 1806, respectively. The next birth record I have is in Georgia in 1816. Stephen also had a daughter, first initial J, who was born in 1795, so it is likely that she was with the family.
Until I learn more about Walter’s parentage and identify any of his siblings, these are all the Ellis’ I have that were alive in 1808.
