What’s New – 12/31/08

I’ve been slack about keeping notes on my research results the last few weeks, which doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of activity.  I’ve had several days off work for the holidays and have spent much of that time researching.  Here are just a few of the new records:… Read the rest

Most Wanted: Parents of Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Jones

Betty is my 3x-great-grandmother and I’ve only recently learned that her maiden name was Jones.  I found this on her son’s (James W. Johnson) death certificate (see below).  James was the brother of my 2x-great-grandfather, Reuben Phillip Johnson, which further proves the importance of researching… Read the rest

Hemphills in 1808

Two hundred years ago, my Hemphill relatives were all in the Burke/Buncombe county area in North Carolina.

Captain Thomas Hemphill (1746-1826), my 5x (twice) and 6x great-grandfather, lived in Burke County, North Carolina in 1810.  On April 4, 1808, he entered a grant for 300 acres lying on both sides… Read the rest

Anna (Keller) Albright Headstone

Anna Maria (Keller) Albright is buried in the Old Brick Church Cemetery in Alamance (formerly Guilford) County, North Carolina.  I read only a few words of German, so I’m taking the data from the inscription on faith.

Anna was born 11 Nov 1733, possibly in Pennsylvania or Switzerland.  She died 10… Read the rest
