My last Tombstone Tuesday post was about Clara J. Butler; the subject of today’s post is her parents, David Sanford Butler and Malinda Josephine (Hemphill) Butler. Dave and Josephine were my great-great-grandparents. They died in 1938 and 1933, respectively. Along with Clara, they are buried in the Butler plot of Ramsey Cemetery in Ramhurst, Georgia.
I really like the inscription style of this stone; the inscribing is quite deep, with the letters reversed. The stone is a little over 70 years old and it feels like it will still be legible two hundred years or more from now. I don’t think the flowers have any significance symbolically; they seem merely decorative.
The epitaph at the bottom is a slight misquote of Psalm 122:1:
“I was glad when he said unto me, let us go unto the House of the Lord.”
