Tombstone Tuesday – James Benjamin Butler

by Tonia Kendrick on August 4, 2009 in Evidence

James Benjamin Butler was my great-grandfather. He died in 1944. This footstone marks his grave in the Butler family plot in Ramsey Cemetery. He was born in 1880 in Murray County, GA and lived there most of his life, except for a few years, when he and his wife lived in Texas. His World War I Draft Registration card describes him as being tall, of medium build, and having blue eyes and sandy hair. He was a farmer, as well as being the Sheriff of Murray County.

We also have a James Benjamin Butler married to Margaret Mahala
Sorrells Butler . We descend through their son, Leslie Harland Butler
through my father, James Gordon Butler. Does any of this sound familiar
to anyone? Please email me if it does…

Hi Carol, no those names are not familiar to me. What part of the country are your Butlers from?

Tonia, I have them traced back to the early 1500s in England. They came from there and were in VA, KY, TX, CA, and primarily in the Western States. I can share more detail with you if you would like to contact me
via the above email address.
