[3] - "Thomas Mackie was residing in Tyrone County, Ireland in 1761, and came to America with his wife and children c1770 (Pension Recs of s. Samuel)."

[5] - "Thos Hemphill" was enumerated as head of household and one of two white males 16+. The other white male in this age group is probably Samuel (15). The household also includes two white males under 16 years (likely James 10, and Andrew, 8), seven white females (likely Mary Ann 32, Martha 16, Rosannah 13, Mary 12, Jane 5, Elizabeth 2, Rachel 0) and 11 slaves.

[6] - Thomas Mackie left his daughter, Mary Hemphill, $5.00 in his will.
Residence 1800 , Burke, North Carolina
[7] - There are two Thomas Hemphills in Burke County in 1800; neither census record matches perfectly, but this one seems most probable. Thomas (54) is the only male in the household over the age 45. There is one female over 45 (Mary Ann, 42), one male under 10 (Thomas M, 4), four females under 10 (Ruth Bertha, 6; Rebecca,8; maybe Rachel, 10; and unidentified), three females 10 to 15 (maybe Elizabeth, 12; Jane, 15; and Mary, 22). There are also two undidentified males, one aged 10 to 15 (possibly James, 20) and one aged 16 to 25 (possibly Samuel, 25). There are 12 slaves.
