    • "The Baxters were originally from South Carolina. The father of Jim and Andy Baxter had a large plantation and a lot of Negro slaves. He wanted Jim and Andy to branch out on their own. He came with the boys - an they saw the Alaculsey Valley, which was occupied by the Indians. They bargained to buy all the land from 'our' house up to the Jim Baxter Place. The two brothers later met and married the two Lowery sisters - Betsy and Pollie."
