John Lytle was born 26 Jan 1820 in Burke County, North Carolina. He died 18 Jun 1892 and is buried at Bethel UMC-Old Cherry Springs Cemetery in Old Fort, North Carolina. John was the son of George Lytle and Susannah Clark and a grandson of Captain Thomas Lytle and Susannah Perkins. He married another Lytle-Perkins grandchild, his first cousin, Lizzie Lytle, the daughter of Millington Lytle and Polly Potillo.

Martha Lytle, yet another Lytle-Perkins grandchild and first cousin to both John and Lizzie, was my third great-grandmother.

Jesse Burgin was born 3 Apr 1803 and died 2 Feb 1890.  His wife, Rosamond Burgin, was born 26 Jan 1806 and died 11 Aug 1879.  They are buried at Bethel UMC-Old Cherry Springs Cemetery in Old Fort, North Carolina.  I believe that Jesse and Rosamond were first cousins, but I haven’t proven that yet.

Jesse’s sister, Malinda (Burgin) Hemphill, was my 4th great-grandmother.

Ben Burgin was born 16 Dec 1779 and died 29 Nov 1874.  He was married to Elizabeth Brandon (headstone says Branon) who was born 12 Dec 1781 and died 29 Jan 1862.  They are buried at Bethel UMC-Old Cherry Springs Cemetery in Old Fort, North Carolina.  Ben was my 5th great-granduncle.

Thomas Lytle served several tours in the American Revolution.  He was a captain in Brevard’s North Carolina Legion and was present at King’s Mountain, although he did not fight in the battle.  He died 31 March 1835 and is buried at Bethel UMC-Old Cherry Springs Cemetery in Old Fort, North Carolina.  He was my 5th great-grandfather.

George Lytle was born 27 Nov 1785.  He died 29 Jan 1858  at the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 2 days.  He is buried at Bethel UMC-Old Cherry Springs Cemetery in Old Fort, North Carolina.  George was the son of Captain Thomas Lytle and Susannah Perkins – my fifth great-grandparents.

John Stroud was born December 25, 1807 and died May 27, 1898.  He is buried in Ball Ground Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia.

Rebecca D. Stroud, daughter of John Stroud and Delilah Bright was born May 19, 1848.  She died at the age of eight, in October 1856, and is buried at Ball Ground Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia.

Lula Maude Butler was born 30 March 1894¹, the 10th child of Dave Butler and Josephine Hemphill.  She appeared in her parents’ household in the 1900², 1910³, and 1920⁴ censuses.  She was a schoolteacher⁵ and never married.

Lula died on 26 May 1980 and is buried at Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.⁶

On July 15, 1895, John Hemphill, the son of Thomas Hemphill and Mattie Love, was born.  He married Ione (aka Harbin), who was born May 10, 1900.  John died when his tractor overturned on June 26, 1957.  Harbin lived 42 years as a widow, dying on March 18, 1989.  They are buried in Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.

This tombstone reads “Florence B. dau of J. W. and M. J. Stroud.”  She is the child of John William Stroud and Mary Jane Hemphill and is buried at Ball Ground Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia.  She was born June 7, 1880 and died just over a year later on September 13, 1881.  I did not know about her until I came across this tombstone and it is entirely possible that there is no other record of her existence.
