Joseph Lytle Burgin – Tombstone Tuesday

March 12, 2013 Tonia Kendrick 2 Comments

Joseph Lytle Burgin headstone

Joseph Lytle Burgin was born 30 Aug 1846, probably in McDowell County, North Carolina.  He appeared on the 1850 and 1860 censuses in the household of his parents, Merritt Burgin and Susannah Adeline Lytle.  He died 23 Mar 1927 in Old Fort, North Carolina.

Sometime before 1880, he married Dulcina and had two children, Mollie G. and James Alonzo. (They may have had more children; I have not researched this family extensively.)

Joseph died on 23 Mar 1927.  He had gangrene in his left leg and foot, caused by diabetes.  He is buried at Bethel-Cherry Springs Cemetery in McDowell County.

Joseph was the grandson of John Burgin and Elizabeth Mann (my fifth great-grandparents) and of Thomas Lytle and Jennie McEntire (my fourth great-grandparents).

I’ve never heard of Tombstone Tuesday before, but it’s nice. I particularly like your scrapbook layout. Would you mind if I used it as a reference sometime? My website is http://www.TreasureChestofMemories.com.

    Thanks,

About Tonia

Hi, I am Tonia Kendrick. Genealogy is my hobby, my passion (those who say obsession would not be accused of crazy-talk). While I had helped my mom with genealogy as a teenager, I first caught the bug myself when computers came into the picture.

Now we are well into the 21st-century and every day brings a new genealogy adventure, whether it is a new record group to explore online or a visit to a cemetery, courthouse, or other repository. It all comes together here. Read more about Tonia's Roots or contact Tonia. Read More…
