Welcome to Tonia’s Roots, where I write about my adventures as a 21st-century genealogy hobbyist, striving to do professional-quality work. This is my journal, my scrapbook, and my research notebook. I cover all the things that intersect with my genealogy world – technology, tools, research, repositories, social media, educational experiences, and of course, those elusive ancestors.
If we have ancestors in common, then you’ll want to visit the “Family Tree” section, because I keep everything online – names, photos, documents, research notes, sources – it’s all there. And, if we are researching the same family lines, please do drop me a note or leave a comment on an applicable post. I’d love to compare notes.
I have been researching my family history for a total of 8 or 9 years, although seriously only since 2007. My mission is to build a complete, well-documented history for each of my ancestors and two generations of their descendants, but I also include additional generations with basic birth-marriage-death information.
I am happy to share any information that I have that may further your own research, although I do ask that if you use my research you provide proper credit to the site, as well as a link back to Tonia’s Roots, if you are publishing anything online. See the page “Want to Use My Work” for more details.
Lastly, this site is a work in progress; if you see errors or omissions, please contact me .
Whether you’re a fellow genealogist or a relative, I hope you’ll have a look around, and drop me a comment to say hello.
