    In Orange County, North Carolina Court session for June 1758, a deed of gift from William Stroud to Peter Stroud for 158 acres was acknowledged. The original Orange County deeds for this period were lost in an early Court House Fire. (Orange Co, NC Court Minutes Book 1 page 303).

    "Sometime between 1785 and 11 Dec 1789, Peter Stroud and family moved west to North Muddy Creek in Burke (now McDowell) County, North Carolina. This is proven, for on that date, Peter and Rebecca Stroud of Burk County sold land to Peter Willis of Brunswick Co, VA, being 800 acres on Terrils Creek waters of Haw River. Peter signed, and Rebekah made her mark. Witnesses were Isham Thrift and Anderson Stroud. Both of these were nephews, son-in-law and son of his brother William Stroud.     "Although he was already gone from there, Peter Stroud was mentioned in an Orange County deed dated 10 Dec 1792 where Benjamin Caldwell of Chatham County sold land to Titus Attwater also of Chatham. The land was described as being in Orange County, on Terrells Creek, bordering the Chatham County line, and bordering Peter Stroud on the west and north. This shows that Peter's land had been right on or near the county line. (Orange Co, NC Deed Book 10 page 174)."

    On 19 Dec 1792 Peter Stroud entered 100 acres (Entry # 230) on the South Fork of Muddy Creek adjoining the line of his tract bought of William Brandon. This entry was transferred to Jesse Stroud (Peter's son).

    Peter Stroud Sr was listed on a 1793 Burke County Tax list in Captain John Carson's Company and taxed for 535 acres of land. Peter Jr and Jesse Stroud were also listed.

    "In Burke County Court for January 1810, Peter Sr and Jr were both mentioned in regards to a road 'Ordered by the court that the following persons be a Jury to View and alter the road if expedient from the corner of Peter Stroud Junr Field to the upper end of Peter Stroud Senr Plantation on the road from Rutherford to the mouth of Buck creak to wit, Thomas Green, William Green, William Green, Junr, John Mitchell, John Keller, Peter Stroud Jr, Peter Stroud Senr, James Patton, Joseph Richy, Mathew Mashburn, William Carson, Robert Hoodg [or possibly Moody or Woody], James Armstrong, Joseph Wilson, Thomas Morrison, James Hix, William Mashburn and report thereof.' April 14, the jury reported that it had 'met and found a road past Peter Strouds field.'"
