- Roger Dellinger reports his death date as c. 1875; however, this information is unsourced. I'm leaving it in until I find additional evidence corroborating the 1879 date.
The 1880 mortality schedule reports the death in December of a "Micheal Whitener," aged 51, white male, married. He was born in North Carolina, as were both parents. He was a farmer and died of an apoplexy. He had resided in Gilmer County for 30 years. I think it is probable that this is our Michael Whitener.
